Hey, someone's gotta start a music thread, right?
Phoenix had a great performance the other night on Saturday Night Live, so I thought I'd post the videos. They're like a catchy mix of Vampire Weekend and Bloc Party.
Hey, someone's gotta start a music thread, right?
I used to follow the Butthole Surfers like no other back in the late 80's and early 90's. Saw this show here in Portland back in '91. Part of my mind is still on the walls somewhere.
BTW - how do I embed the links like you and Chris Pez did?
Afghan Whigs - My Curse
Probably my favorite song
If you look on the YouTube page on the top right you'll see a text area labeled Embed.

Just copy the entire contents (it'll be a long string of HTML) of that text area and paste it. The same thing also works for any other video hosting site like hulu and vimeo.
Sauce and Chris P,
Thanks for posting Phoenix and Zeitgeist. I had never heard of either and enjoyed both bands. I am really enjoying the recent homage to early 80's new wave and techno from newer bands.
I hear a lot of Kraftwerk and Gary Numan/Tubeway Army influences these days -
I never thought with my bent towards death metal(and specificlly math metal and scandinavian metal) that I would feel like I have pedestrian music tastes, but here I am. I have never heard of any of these bands. That being said, I dont think me likey either!?
So do you like Carnage, Don Caballero, Hella, Voivod or Probot?
I think this will be more CO's speed:
Oats might like this too
yes,a few songs, kinda, yes and FUCK YES!
those are great, but this is getting heavy play on my Ipod right now:
I was just watching Oceans Twelve and so the instrumental version of this song is stuck in my head.
But for me, there's only one French rap song (it's sung in English, but the dude was French) worth listening to, and it's even directed by Michel Gondry who directed one of my favorite movies, Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind.
gotta say, that was a damn good video. and going off on that tangent, here is my favorite hip-hop video ever so far. dj format f/ jurassic 5.
Oh Baby Youuuuu
The diabolical BIZ MARKIE!
I'm in the process of cleaning up my music folder, and came across the gem:
A friend of mine sent me this link this week... Me likes!
PDX Pop Now put on a great acoustic show last night at The Cleaners. I'd never heard of Loch Lomond before, but I thought their performance was beyond lovely. I made sure to pick up their CD at the merch table.
Also putting in an excellent performance was the lead singer of The Helio Sequence. He sounded somewhere between Bob Dylan and Paul Simon. Here's a taste:
Running through my head right now:
Caught this video tonight while watching the Kodiac Phat Show. "Closet Freak" by Cee-Lo Green, whom you may know from Gnarls Barkley. Aww yeeeeah.
Two songs stuck in my head lately:
Builders and Butchers had a surprise show tonight at Rontoms. They played a bunch of great tunes, including this one, filmed during MFNW down the block.
They also had a great cover of Duran Duran's "Hungry Like The Wolf" but the best cover of the night had to belong to Gavin Castleton doing Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer". There's a video floating around on YouTube of him, but it doesn't do his performance tonight any justice, so I'm not going to post it.
The Ratatat remix of Notorious BIG's "Party and Bullshit"

I love a Rube Goldberg video, and this one from OK Go takes it to a whole new level. Great song, too.
The making of the video (part one):
even though they broke up this last feburary, i will take any opportunity to pimp Zeigeist. yep.
