Has anyone been to Pitxi in Sandy? It gets pretty good reviews and the menu looks really interesting. Elk meatballs. Rabbit meatloaf. I'm thinking about trying it out next weekend.

Sylvan and I made it to Pitxi last week. We both give it a thumbs up.
You can go home again CO.

The decor is nice for Sandy, but not much fancier than a nice Portland coffee house. Not crowded at all on a Friday night, though we passed a group of half-drunk women leaving when we arrived. I presume they were happy from drinking wine there.

Service was great. They greeted and sat us right away, checked on us often and the manager, Anna, refilled our wine glasses all evening.

The amuse was a tiny toast with duck mousse with thyme. Delicious.

We ordered the onion tart appetizer. It took a little while to cook, but when it came it was worth the wait. Flaky crust and the onions were perfectly sweet/savory and melted in your mouth. Not very big though.

For an entree, I ordered the bacon-wrapped trout. Should have taken Sylvan's suggestion to never order trout in a restaurant. The fish was pretty flavorless and overcooked. It was surrounded in bacon, which was tasty, but there was too much of it. I think the temperatures required to cook pork to an edible temperature overcooked the trout. It was on a bed of wilted baby greens with a delicate sweet wine dressing on top of french lentils. Everything was delicious except for the trout.

Sylvan ordered the duck, medium-rare. It came slightly less done than that. The outside pieces were fine but the inside was bordering on rare. (It works out great sometimes when you can't finish it though. You take home half-cooked meat and when you reheat it, it's perfect the next time.) It was served with a chocolate red wine sauce. I know, sounds disgusting. But it was more of a red wine reduction mole sauce. Complemented the duck perfectly. Also served with pureed parsnips and orange slices. The presentation looks like meat on baby food, but it tasted so good.

We had the Dr. Loosen 2007 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Kabinett. Low in alcohol, but densely flavored. It went pretty well with the food. The wine list was pretty small, and is different than what's listed on their website. No liquor or beer.

We didn't order dessert, but they brought us two very fresh small cream puffs. Mmmm.

Having only eaten donuts in Sandy, I can't compare it to any other restaurant in Sandy. But I bet it's one of the top 3, if not the best one there.

Good report Joy. I love the Dr. Loosen wines.

I'll bet it's pretty easy to be in the top three in CO's hometown....I hear there are only two restaurants Smile

Yeah, and the other one is the Arco Mini-mart!

seriously though, sounds quaint and charming(like me) and probably fits right into the asthetic of Sandy. I hope its still around this summer, when Im out that way on the weekends and near town during actual dining hours. Thanks Joy!

I was a little worried that they were fairly empty on a Friday night, but they seemed to be doing a pretty good take out business.

It is rare that we're in Sandy for dining. We were staying at a cabin in Welches and wanted to eat before we got there and warmed up the wood stove.

You mean I no longer have to wait until I have errands to run in Sandy? Sweet.

The plan for the new Pitxi, (located in the space previously occupied by Café Cubano) is to split it between a 30-seat wine bar area, with accompanying bar menu, and a 30 seat dining room. The menu is still in development but will remain consistent with the previous location: a focus on seasonal, local cuisine inspired by Martinez’s French technique and a hefty dose of influences ranging from Native American to Basque.
