100 Things to Eat and Drink in Portland
There's been a few lists similar to this made for other cities, so I thought I'd go ahead and post one for Portland. There's certainly plenty to do food and drink wise in this city, and it's been quite a bit of fun compiling this list. It isn't necessarily a compilation of the best dish at each restaurant, but rather one that best represents it. Compiling this list has re-affirmed my belief in the sheer breadth of food available here in Portland. And none of this could be done without the help of some chatroom regulars like CO, Flynn and Sylvan. Thanks, gentlemen.
38 for me! Inspired to try more.
dang, I took a count and am 1 shy of half....49. I am gonna need to address that.
I'm happy to say I've had 16 of those dishes.
Awesome list! I've only had 7 things - looks like I have some work to do!
I want to thank everyone who's visited pdxPLATE over the past few weeks thanks to this link. A couple notes: it's not supposed to be a canonical list in the sense that it's THE definite list. Not at all. As the name suggests it's 100 Things to do not 100 Best Things, and I even offered the disclaimer that it's not even the list of the best thing at each spot.
I tried breaking out of the mold of the usual suspects. And granted, there are glaring omissions like the lack of beer and Simpatica (the sad closure of Cava makes room on the list, certainly). But in their place, I wanted to make sure to highlight the cornucopia of options, as well as to show that the town has more than just the darling favorites from the New York Times or hell, even local favorites.
I'd been working on the list for a few months but I resumed it in earnest after coming back from a trip to New York in which I was so geeked about the food scene there, and I really wanted to make sure to carry that enthusiasm over back to the town where I live.
Anyway, I'm keeping the list as it was written for posterity, but if I had to redo the list, I'd try and squeeze in Belmont Station, Bailey's Taproom, Waffle Window, Acropolis, Simpatica, Nuevo Mexico, Al Masry, Navarre, Tabla, Pitxi, Junior Ambassadors... If your favorites didn't make the list, it just means that there are a lot more places here in Portland for you to explore.
Hey, and welcome to tha 'Plate.
Wow, heart attack city!
If you had showed this to us while we were there, I think it would've become sort of like a scavenger hunt. thank god you didn't. this only means we have to visit PDX more often. great list. have a good weekend.
btw, tried bun thang at a place in LA just so i could remember the version i had at HA&VL.
In case you're curious, here's some other 100 lists.
How's everyone doing on the list so far? As the pdxplate awards demonstrate, there will be a few new additions coming in when this list gets republished (likely around spring or so). The closure of Cava and Asian Station gives way to new additions like Beaker and Flask, as well as previous glaring omissions.
I'll have to recount, but I think there's only five or so that I haven't yet done.
I have to disagree with the foie gras bon bon - it tastes nothing like foie gras which kind of misses the point, and its served on some sort of salt cracker, and when i say salt i mean salt. the bon bon is not bad its just not good.

39 for me too. I need to go out more w/Sauce!
