Alyssa Gregg and Ted Charak have hit a home run with the newest addition to NE 28th, and it appears that "28 Feast" restaurant row finally has a crown jewel. The room has numerous nooks and crannies where you can be social, or if you prefer, tuck away a little bit. Regardless, the warm decor invites you to stay a while and enjoy a food and beverage program that comforts the casual diner as well as rewards the adventurous one. And now onto the Belgians (or in the case of the Ommegang out of New York and the Christoffel from the Netherlands, Belgian-style). Of course, there are a lot of great beers here as well, including the Scaldis Noel, recently featured as Imbibe Magazine's drink of the week, and is an excellent winter beer. If you've got multiple people in your party who are fans of The Dutchess, consider also going for the big bottle of the Rodenbach to share instead.
And now the food, starting with the bar/late night menu. The menu might be trimmed down, but the food is still filling enough for all but the hungriest of diners. Recommendations here include the smorgasbord, which features a dizzying array of meat options, and also the hearty beef stew (pictured right).
And now onto the apps and mains. The chicken liver schnitzel (second from the top of the page) and the tenderloin are standout examples, while the seafood bourride (below), razor clams and pork cheeks (pictured at the top of the page) all shine as well.
